Ernst Trogg
Ernst married twice; first to Mathilde Duesing and after her death, he married Julia Nehring. Julia had a prior marriage. This complicates his story because all the children of these marriages took his surname. I am still not sure I have untangled all the children and parents correctly.
Ernst and Mathilde
Ernst arrived in New York in December, 1871 and made his way to Chicago where his brothers were living. Mathilde followed in July, 1872. I don't know if Duesing was a married name or her maiden name. Mathilde and her son Charles are listed as Diesing on the passenger lists. Recently, dna testing has linked Charles to descendants of Ernst and Julia. It would seem Ernst is Charles' bio-father.
Ernst and Mathilde married in Chicago on September 15, 1872. They had four children together, an un-named son, Frieda, Martha, and Louis. Mathilde died in 1878 of typhus abdominalis. She is buried in Graceland Cemetery.

Ernst and Julia
Ernst remarried five months after Mathilde's death. Julia had also been previously married. I've found several variations of her first husband's name, Tiedt, Piedt and Bidde. She and her two children, Minnie and Frederick, brought the total in the Trogg household to nine.
Ernst and Julia had five children, Johanna, Anna, Ernest, Henry, and an un-named daughter. Ernst died in 1912 and Julia in 1916. They are both buried in Concordia Cemetery.
